This Day in History October 7, 1982

I happen to still be an Andrew Lloyd Webber fan, and today’s feature concerns one of his greatest musicals.  On this date in 1982, Cats premiered on Broadway.  It had been a massive success in England, and until Phantom of the Opera surpassed it, it held the record run on Broadway.  I have seen the musical twice live (not on Broadway but certainly still a professional show), and it mesmerized both my daughter and me.  We also have it on DVD.  If you have ever seen the video production, it is good but not nearly as good as seeing it live.  I know that this musical has received a lot of criticism since the story seems to be lacking, but the song Memory makes the experience completely worthwhile.

I love Cats! I saw it on Broadway, but then I saw it in London too. It all seems a very long time ago now. 🙂

Lucky you! I would have loved to have seen it in London. But at least I saw Mamma Mia there!
