I might vaguely remember today’s feature.   On this date in 1998, Senator John Glenn returned to space aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery.  He became the oldest man to go into space.  He was the first man to orbit the earth and the second man in space.  And then he returned to space.  Amazing!   May I be that active when I am in my 70’s!

I remember this sooooooo well! I called my gram from work and she put the phone up to the TV so I could listen. Walter Cronkite came out of retirement to announce the launch. How exciting! Just think of ALL the medical research they got from his previous flight then the one in 1998. A lot of the study goes hand in hand with what they did with Shannon Lucid (longest stay in space)….study the effect of weightlessness on muscles & John Glenn added the ‘age’ factor and had data to compare from his young space flight days.
