My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is one of those books that is not a simple book to review. This is an extremely complicated book with much depth, pathos, and true family grit. This is a continuation of a previous story (which I have not read), and I do feel like that hampered my true enjoyment of this novel. But patience does pay off where this book is concerned, and I was rewarded with a story that truly touched my heart and reminded me of what is important in families and life.

I can give you one word of caution. There is plenty of profanity in the novel, and if you are easily offended by that, this book is certainly not for you. I was sometimes offended by the words used, but that did not figure into my rating of this book. There are no bedroom scenes, and all “intimate” scenes are between husband and wife and certainly not graphic in any way.

It took me a little while to comprehend the full impact of this story, and the complexity of the characters sometimes made this hard to follow. There were a few times I had to reread portions of the story so I could understand what was going on. And I have to admit that a few times I found myself somewhat baffled concerning the story. Some of that may have been due to the fact that I had not read the first book, and some of it may have just been me.

No matter what your take on the story or book, you can be assured to come out the other end of this story with the following conclusion: “Life is precious, and nothing is too dark to make the conscious decision to end it all.” The author does an excellent job at illustrating her point through and amazing story of family, tragedy, and true love.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
