Rick PerryThis possibly wasn’t a famous day, and lest you think I’m heading down the political road, you’re wrong.  Understand that I am (was) a Texan, and I actually didn’t like today’s feature when he first became governor of that state.  I didn’t even want to vote for him.  I am also a conservative Christian which figures into all my opinions and views.  Anyway, on this date in 2011, Governor Rick Perry made the following statement while on the campaign trail:  “How old do I think the Earth is? I don’t have any idea. I think it’s pretty old.”  This was in response to a child asking him how old the earth was.  This led to a few short statements concerning evolution and creation.  In Texas (I believe this is still the case, but I know they were trying to change it), both theories are taught in the public school.  Religion is not taught, but both are theories no matter what one chooses to believe.  You can guess my view, and I honestly do believe both theories should be taught.  I believe they can even be taught without espousing religion.  I have heard that some people believe in a form of creation without believing in God, so it’s not completely out in left field.

Rick Perry was criticized for not being scientific enough to be a presidential candidate, and I found this somewhat confusing.  I did not know that a thorough grasp of scientific theories and principles was integral to the presidential office.  I actually looked it up, and ten of our presidents (George Washington and Abraham Lincoln included) did not graduate from college.  Does that mean that they were ineffective and inept?

Now, I’m not saying that I think Rick Perry should be president.  To be perfectly honest, I became rather disappointed in him as a candidate for the presidency.  But it has nothing to do with his ineptitude in scientific concepts.  There is much more, and I won’t go into it here.  I think he’s making the right decision in not running for governor again, but it doesn’t mean I think he’s stupid or ineffective as a leader.  I just don’t think he would have made it as a presidential candidate.  He doesn’t appear to have what it takes.

And that is possibly the most politics you will get out of me.  For more information:
