Choosing the Road Less Traveled: Finding Grace on the Path to PurposeChoosing the Road Less Traveled: Finding Grace on the Path to Purpose by Myckelle P. Williams

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you follow my reviews fairly regularly, you know that I often recommend books quite highly when the content and writing style are outstanding. I will sometimes recommend a book highly and encourage everyone to read the book. In many cases, I highly recommend a fiction book, and shorter books are not generally on my “must-read” list. Maybe you are tired of hearing my strong recommendations, but this one is a “must-read.” It is essentially a biography, an inspirational book, and a book that could potentially impact the reader in a way he/she never dreamed.

I was instantly drawn into the story since I am a Calvary Chapel member. I had no idea that was in the author’s background, and I was instantly certain I would enjoy the book. And that is probably the understatement of the century! I have read powerful testimonies of Christians who literally went through “hell” before being saved. I was thoroughly impressed with how the author told her story. She took responsibility for her actions. And the underlying theme throughout the book was that even when she was not walking with the Lord, she could see His hand on her life. Absolutely nothing could thwart God’s plan for her–even when she tried to do what she thought was the best thing for her.

I was reminded time again throughout the story that even the seemingly inconsequential things are in God’s hand. He cares about it all, and His purpose will be accomplished. Taking the pass less traveled by does make all the difference in her life. I was emotional for much of the book, and I was in tears at the end (the good kind, as I explained to my daughter). The way God worked in her life and used her reminded me that God is waiting to use us if we will let Him.

It is true that this book deals with the issue of abortion. and it does come at the subject from a Christian point of view. But I believe that once the reader comprehends the reasoning behind her decision, it may not come off as truly offensive to someone who holds an opposing view. She never comes across as being condemning. She debunks many “Christian myths,” and her life is a living testament to the grace of God. In addition to this, her writing style is absolutely impeccable.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
