This Day in History July 8, 1961

All right, please indulge me. Yes, I like country music (though I didn’t until a few years ago), and today is a country musician’s birthday. So here goes. On this date in 1961, Toby Keith was born. I have posted his first hit above, and my goodness, he looks different! He is quite a success story. He made his way in country music later in life. He was born in Oklahoma, played football, and worked for the oil industry. He always planned on being a musician before he was 30, but it was after that age that he made it.

Now, I don’t like every song he has ever done, but I have to admit that his tributes to our armed forces always get to me. The one I really like I won’t post here–Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue. He wrote that after 9/11, and I know it has some objectionable content, so you can check it out for yourself.  I also love his song Talk About Me.  But I’m going to post his touching song called American Soldier as a tribute to all men and women serving in the Armed Forces of our great country.

I do like the more contemporary country music. Toby Keith certainly is talented and his dedication to the troops is to be admired. Thanks for posting such a nice tribute!

I am also a fan of Toby Keith, however not as big a fan as you are. Happy Birthday Toby

I prefer Toby when he was a little younger. He’s done some songs that really did nothing for me in recent years, but I guess I am a fan to a degree. I also taught about him when I was a music teacher.
