This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Teressa Payne MacNeille for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Have you ever heard the term graphic designer and wondered what it exactly was?  I know I have, and I guess I'm not the only one.  Teressa Payne MacNeille must have wondered at one time, and she acted on her findings since she attained a degree in it.  But if one chooses that career path, what exactly does it mean?

In order to become a graphic designer (as Teressa Payne MacNeille did), you will need the following qualities.

  • creativity
  • technology know-how
  • artistic expression in various genres
  • effective communication skills

But these skills are not enough to make one a successful graphic designer.  As Teressa Payne MacNeille could tell you, one needs to be able to effectively combine text and images to fashion a compelling piece that will accomplish the desired goal of the client.  It could be as simple as an image to display within an office.  However, it could be as complex as a massive advertising campaign involving web design, billboards, and merchandise based on the design.  A graphic designer has to be knowledgeable concerning a myriad of mediums and resources.

As the twenty-first century continues to drive technology and visual design forward at an accelerated pace, graphic designers will continue to be in high demand.  In order to have a successful career, one must become an expert at his/her craft as well as his/her marketing skills.  This industry will continue to become increasingly competitive, and only the best will be able to have a successful career.
