Look twiceLook twice by M. Garzon

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I devoured the first book in the series, and when the second book came out, I knew I had to read it. And all I can say is that as much as I relished the first book, the second book was as good if not better. Sometimes sequels do not live up to expectations, but M. Garzon is a master at telling stories and developing characters. While one can easily jump into this second book and comprehend the dynamics of what is happening, reading the first book in the series will deepen the reader’s gratification.

For some unknown reason, I have never felt offended when reading this series. The profanity is incredibly minimal, and the morals are not always what I would prefer. I wish Jaden and Tea were no sleeping together, but there are no bedroom details given. There is a gay character in the book, but even that did not bother me. Potential child abuse was expounded upon more in the first book, but again, I took no offense to the situation. I would say the book is more suitable for older than younger teens. Needless to say, older readers like me will be rather inclined to revel in the tale.

For me, the appeal of the book is difficult to put into words. It deals with an unusual situation that I feel so many of the characters really blow out of proportion. The author introduced something in the last twenty pages or so that I never saw coming. In many ways, the book ends with a kind of cliffhanger, and I like that. Especially when I realize that the third book will be published in a few months!

For me, reading this book was like reclining with friends around the cozy fire. I felt like I knew and understood the characters, and I genuinely cared about their lives and what was happening to them. The author tackles some arduous issues including adoption, dating, child abuse, and growing up. With virtually no reservations, I feel I can definitely recommend this book to just about anyone.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
