Back to SchoolWelcome to the Back to School Blast!

Getting your family prepared to head back to school, can be difficult especially after a long, fun-filled summer. Here are a few of our favorite Back to School Tips to help you along the way.

1. Back-to-School Supplies Checklist – Backpack? Check. Pencils? Check. Safety scissors? Not Yet. Use the same checklist each time you head out to grab supplies, to keep track of what you have already purchased and the things you still need to. These are also handy if you have more than one child. Simply print 2, 3, 4 list and add their name to the top.

Here are my back-to-school tips:

1.  Shop for clothes all year long at the thrift store–watch for holiday sales.  It will save loads of money!

2.  Shop after holidays for teacher gifts.  It means the world to these adults who work with your kids all school year long, and you would be amazed at how many parents don’t take the time to do it.

3.  Do no over-involve your child.  Pick one extra-curricular activity (not connected with school), and let your child help you pick it out.  Do not do more than one sport–you will regret it!

4.  Be proactive with the teachers.  Keep tabs on your child’s homework throughout the year, starting from the beginning.  Foster open communication as much as possible with your child’s teacher(s).  Don’t be shocked at report card time when your child’s grade and/or behavior is now what it should be.

5.  Above all, let your child make mistakes.  It’s okay if they forget their homework or their lunch once in a great while.  It’s fine to bail them out on a rare occasion, but don’t make it a habit.  Let them learn to face and accept the consequences.
