I actually thought that the person featured today was dead–go figure.  On this date in 1932, Omar Sharif was born.  His birth name was Michel Demitri Shalhoub, and he was born in Egypt.  His acting career began in Egypt.  The name change occurred because he converted to Islam when he married a Muslim woman.  His first English language film was Lawrence of Arabia.  But he is probably best known as Dr. Zhivago in the movie of the same name.  He was married once, and he has one child.  He divorced in 1974, and he never married again.

Now, let me tell you my first remembrance of him.  I was a Barbra Streisand fan when I was growing up, and I saw her first film Funny Girl.  I remember being overwhelmed by the actor who played her husband–I found him rather attractive and romantic even back then.  And Omar Sharif was the actor who played him.

It was only years later when I saw the other films mentioned.  There is a lot more I could say, but I’ll let you do the hard work of looking up more info if you like:
